The Law Society of Ontario will present a degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa (LLD), to Reuben M. Rosenblatt, Q.C., LSM,?at its Call to the Bar ceremony on June 27, 2018 at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto.
As part of its Call ceremonies each year, the Law Society awards honorary doctorates to distinguished people in recognition of outstanding achievements in the legal profession, the rule of law, or the cause of justice. Recipients serve as inspirational keynote speakers for the new lawyers attending the ceremonies.
Called to the Ontario Bar in 1959, Mr. Rosenblatt exemplifies the best the legal profession has to offer and to which all lawyers should aspire. An extraordinary solicitor, he is dedicated to his clients and to the rule of law. His accomplishments and contributions are legendary to the real estate bar — and his gift as a legal educator has been a true constant throughout his career.
The recipient of several awards and honours, Mr. Rosenblatt received the Osgoode Hall Law School Gold Key Award for significant contributions to the law school.? He was the first recipient of the Ontario Bar Association Award of Excellence in Real Estate in January 1996 and was roasted for 50 years at the Bar by the Ontario Bar Association in 2007. ?He was awarded the Law Society Medal in 2007.
Mr. Rosenblatt has taught at Osgoode Hall for over 40 years and has been a mentor and example to generations of students and lawyers. He has written extensively and is sought after as a lecturer in legal education programs.
Along with being one of the pre-eminent real estate lawyers in Canada, he has also written three children’s books titled Reuben and Shaharazad, Jo Jo and The Little Hero as well as two books titled My Mother and Me and College Street, Parts I and II.
He is currently the Chair and a senior member of the Real Estate Group at Minden Gross LLP. His practice focuses on complex real estate issues.
